Confusing

Hughie came to me and said, “Mat-kan”.

I was impressed because I thought he learned a new Malay word from school which is “makan” translation: eat

So I just smiled at him.

He was annoyed and said again, “Mat-kan?”

So I asked him what he wanted to eat. I mean, that’s all I can asks, right?

He looked at me again and said, “MAT-KAN??? MAT-KAN…mat-kan!” and walked off in a huff.

*cricket chirping …………..*

Aha! It’s Mandarin!!

Mat-kan means wipe dry!! He didn’t want to eat, he wanted to wipe dry something ………….. *duh*

Dragon Lady

One of the boss called me “dragon lady” the other day :)

He found out that this year’s Chinese New Year falls exactly on my birthday (I’m turning 32!!) and coincidentally it’s a dragon year hence the moniker.

It will be a bittersweet moment for me. With due respect to my MIL’s passing, we cannot celebrate anything for the 100 days period; birthdays, Chinese New Year, parties included.

This year is going to be a hush-hush event for Hughie & I (Hughie & my birthday all falls within the 100 days time frame); although we will be back with my family who is celebrating, I will need to observe this as I’m representing hubby for the family. Hubby will not be around during that time.

Tough part is … I’m staying with my family who is celebrating *think …..*

So. Let me say this now before the day comes and I forget.

To those celebrating, I’m sorry I won’t be able to visit (don’t call me anti-social if I don’t call). To those with kids, sorry no red ang-pows this year (don’t call me a scrooge if your kids don’t have anything from me).

Wish you all a good Dragon year 2012. I’m sure the water dragon will treat you all well – health & prosperity. :)
